Inside Marmara

Marmara Sterling is all hand-made jewellery, combining high-quality European crystals with sterling silver findings. It is very important for us to be a responsible company and keep our production environment-friendly and that’s why we are using 99% of recycled silver in our jewellery. The majority of our design innovations and novelties originate from the latest trends in crystal shapes and colors. However, Marmara Sterling is dedicated to design and produce jewellery that is unique only to its brand.

STERLING SILVER

All our earrings, pendants and rings, among with most of the other metal parts, are manufactured using 99% recycled silver. Silver is called sterling silver when the silver content in the metal is equal to or more than 92,5% (hence the name 925 silver). Thus all of our jewellery bears the 925 stamp, alongside with the name stamp of our company (required by the Estonian Law of Precious Metals).

RHODIUM PLATING

As sterling silver alone oxidizes very easily which can turn the metal black, all of the silver parts in our jewellery are rhodium plated. Rhodium is a rare metal (in fact more expensive than gold) that doesn’t scratch and prevents the jewellery from oxidizing, so it will maintain its shiny look for a longer period of time.

GOLD PLATING

Half of our jewellery selection is manufactured with gold plating, for our clients who wear only gold. This is done by a similar process as rhodium plating, except instead of rhodium we have used 18K gold. Marmara clients can choose between rose and yellow gold plating. Information regarding different platings can be found under every product information individually.

ZIRCONIA

We are using the most diamond-like zirconia stones on our products. We assure that their superior production, materials, cutting and polishing are made with the highest quality, and thus these gems will last for years and their colors delight you with marvelous resistance long after your purchase. The quality can be checked with a microscope when searching for the quality seal.

CRYSTALS

Marmara has used and will use only the finest quality crystals produced in the European Union. The stones we use are man-made, but made with precision-cut using quartz, sand and minerals. The production and processing are very complicated when cutting hard materials such as crystal and gems, because they have hundred identical facets in several directions and each direction of the reflected light must first be calculated by computer, then simulated in 3D, optimized and finally converted into control programs for complex machinery.

ARTIFICAL PEARLS

Yes, indeed, pearls used in Marmara jewellery are not made in the shell of oysters. Our artificial pearls have a crystal core, giving the pearls realistic weight, while a special coating helps to give them a realistic appearance. As they are not natural pearls they come in a wide range of shapes, colors and designs. Our pearls have a smooth surface, and when worn they make the skin warm just like the real thing.

STAINLESS STEEL SPRINGS

Stainless steel is a hypoallergenic material, widely used for jewellery and watches. We are using stainless steel instead of silver in the clips of our Alcantara bracelets and in the springs of all basic earrings. The reason for this is that silver is a too soft material and thus can’t be used for this purpose, but the springs are needed in order for jewellery not getting lost because earrings are loose.
